Miss Barbie and her clothes

Along with knitting some Barbie clothes I also sat down and sewn some. Some of the patterns came from pinterest and others from a sewing pattern. Fabric used was scraps left over from clothes I made for DGD and others from other projects,

I do have a few more cut out to make but they will be for her birthday next year. Just figured while I had the pattern out and the fabric scraps were sitting there I would just go ahead and cut them out. I put the cut out fabric with the patterns so everything is safely tucked away together.

This red dress is made from left over fabric used on a same quilt wall hanging and after seeing a fabric like it in black and white on pinterest I knew I had to make one with this fabric. I think it makes a perfect Christmas dress for Miss Barbie.

Barbie is wearing a frozen outfit just like the one I made for DGD couple years ago to play dress up.

gift card holders

Needed some gift card holders for this Christmas so I made these.

The pattern is from Quilters world quilted Christmas 2016 magazine. Pattern is called Mitten Gift bags. I made two of each as I need at least four this Christmas and have a couple extra ready to go just in case. Just big enough to hold a gift card and a little treat.

Christmas crafting

Been busy Christmas crafting right now mainly for DGD.

This is the nightgown I made for DGD and one of her dolls.

Been working on some clothes etc for some barbie's as DGD's Christmas gift and Miss Barbie got a fur jacket and matching hat. Pattern is from an old crafts magazine for when my children were young and the fur is left over from making DGD a fur/flannel lap blanket for her birthday last year. More clothes to come.

And finally Miss Barbie needs a chair to sit in. These chairs are called Grandma's secret chair and the pattern came from a book again when my children were young. Have made them over the years first for my children and than some girls who have come through my home over the years through my years with home child care.
One will be for my dear grand daughter and the other two will be gifts for two little girls who are in my care this Christmas for their barbies. Feels great making some nice little gifts with left over fabric from other projects so other than time they really didn't cost anything to make them.

Barbie clothes

Been busy using up some left over yarn etc to make DGD some barbie clothes for Christmas.
The poncho was made using Sirdar hush yarn that was left over from a hat I made last year and pattern from a Barbie crochet book found at my local library. Yarn has some silver thread running through it to give some shimmer to it.

The  pink/blue skirt, navy skirt and sweater patterns came from an old crafts 'n things magazine from when my children where young. The two yarns were used to make the Lemon difficult shawl and I had just enough left over to do these outfits.

The dress barbie is wearing was made with cotton crochet thread and the pattern can be found on beacrafter.com  Fashion doll strapless gown--she made it full length but I like it shorter.
Next I plan to sew her a few outfits from left over fabrics from clothes I have made her.

Christmas Lap Quilt

Last year while doing the row by row I came across a lap top quilt kit in one of the stores in a little town and picked it up. Decided in Sept that if I wanted it ready to be used by Christmas I better get at it.
Little did I know that it would be middle of October before it would be cool enough in the evenings to hand stitch the binding to the back of the quilt. Even as I type this we are still getting summer type weather as we woke up to it being 23C out and todays high is to be 30C

The pattern that came with the quilt kit is called Jelly Jive and is a Pieced Tree pattern. Had two colour choices for the kit. The one you see and the other was a mute red and soft white but since I have every colour of decorations on the tree including black I figure this would go better since it will be used in the same room as the tree.

Last few months of crafting

Talk about getting behind on posting. I have been very bad that way but with new responsibility at church, house full of children for the summer and some health problems this biog fell to the bottom of the list especially as it's a place to note my crafting and let's just say I wasn't getting must done on the crafting front.

Anyway here is some pictures of what I have managed to get done:

Skirt and top for me. Skirt is a soft pink print that reminded me of an era got by and was made using McCall's M6993-the archive collection circa 1933. The top is also a McCall's M7193 pattern. Have also made myself one in white.

Also got a couple dishcloths done for yDD b-day in December

This scarf was also made for yDD-as part of her birthday gift. It was made with Lion brand 'Shawl in a ball yarn' in mindful mauve using their misty haze cowl pattern.

Here is the Lemon Difficult shawl I made after taking the Two colour brioche class at 'shall we knit? by Kate Atherly. You can find the pattern at raverly.com  Sorry that the picture is upside down but it seems to be the only way it will let me post it.

And last but not least is the new winter hat I made for myself. Its' another Lion brand pattern called 'Gretchen's Easy Tam'. Made with heartland yarn in 'great smoky mountains' and 'Acadia' colours.

Last week I sent off to the mitten tree some hats and mittens. 6 of each. These were made mainly with yarn left over from other projects. As it's mid spring here they will wait till fall to put them out.

This has used up all my odd and end yarn but I have several projects still waiting to be made up. Once I do them I am sure I will have more yarn to make more mittens come next winter.

DGD Easter dress

Each year I like to make my granddaughter a new dress for Easter and this year I also made a dress for one of her dolls from the left over fabric.

So here is the dress. It's blue with white polka dots. Made with butterick pattern 3350.

The doll dress is on one of my dolls that the HCC gang plays with and DGD actually has the same doll so it was easy to see how it would fit and look on her dolls.

Can not wait till Easter to see how the dress looks on my granddaughter

Top for DGD

Blouse I made for my DGD.

Saw the fabric while out shopping for fabric to make my DGD a Easter dress. It's hard to tell in this picture but the top is covered I tiny dots of all colours on a light-med blue background. The trim on the top are daisy's. It's a simple blouse pattern from a pattern book called 'girls style book' by Yoshiko Tsukiori and H.H. Put out by Tuttle.

Rocking chair

As you can see from the above picture I finally got around to making some new cushions for my rocking chair. This is the first piece of new furniture we purchased when DH and I got married. Most of I it was either given to us or purchased second hand. The cushions we got for this chair were starting to fall apart so in the garbage they when last fall.

The print fabric (set of charm fabrics)was purchased at the woollen mill comforter shopwhile we were in the states last spring while visiting bonners Christmas store in a nice little shop in town. The tone on tone brown used with the print on the front was also used for the back of the cushions. The pattern used is from the bhg site all people quilt and is called Another Angle Pillow.

Here is a closer look at the cushions and you can see the colours used better.  Sorry I can not recall the name of the fabric company.

Mitten tree knitting

Above is the hat/mitt set I made for the mitten tree from left over yarn used for making DGD jacket. This picture gives you a better idea of the colours of the jacket.

The mitten tree is a Christmas tree that our regional social services home child care puts up every fall and cover with children mittens and hats for those in need. At times especially just before Christmas you might also find some other knitted items like doll blankets, knitted dolls etc that will make great gifts for children.

DGD jacket

Well I am happy to say that I have finally finished the jacket after two big crocheting mistakes. The first being that my stitches got tighter and most of the backing had to come out and a change in hook size had to be made. Second was following the directions for left sleeve while making the right sleeve.
Any way here is the pictures of the jacket.

The pattern is called "Granny's little Girl" The yarn is Mary Maxim Sugar baby stripes in the colour Mocha Crunch. It is sold as a kit. The yarn has soft shades of blue, brown and kind of off white/beige.
Will be a couple months before I get to see it on my DGD as her birthday isn't till beginning of April. Had fun making it.

The start of a blog

have no idea what I am doing as I am totally new to this but am looking for a way to show my crafting to some friends and thought this would be the way to do so. Now just need to figure out how to post info into the profile section.
